Innovative Biometric Padlock

Let’s face it, we’ve all at one point forgotten the password or the keys to our padlock, leading us to uncomfortable and unfortunate situations. We love when technology can give the users new ways and tools to prevent situations like these from occurring. A Toronto-based start-up invented a new innovative technology named TappLock, the first smart padlock that doesn’t need a key or a code but only your fingerprints.

Fingerprint Recognition Technology

Technologies have allowed users to unlock their smartphones with fingerprint recognition, this new innovative technology is now coming to other product designs for the better.

TAPP is a multi-purpose innovative padlock that can be used to lock doors, lockers, bags, and even bikes. Equipped with a cutting-edge encrypted fingerprint sensor, the padlock can be swiftly opened as all it needs is a less-than-one-second tap. Designed with steel material, the product device is very solid and also water-resistant. The innovative product design comes in two models: the TappLock and the TappLock Lite. TappLock has an integrated 1200mAh lithium rechargeable battery that will handle about three years of normal use. The Lite version has a battery that lasts up to six months. The app will notify you as the battery gets low so you can remember to charge it.

The most important feature on the padlock is security. TAPP has a built-in anti-theft alarm that triggers when someone cuts the padlock or tries to open it without authorization. With the popularity of products conveniently linking to apps on users phones, TappLock has not fallen short of that. Users are able to receive all the necessary information, such as somebody trying to break the lock on their phones almost instantaneously. The user can use the app to manage and give unlock access to other users if they wish to. The TappLock version can even be used to charge up phones, making it very convenient for travelers.

Having raised over 400% on their Indiegogo campaign, the company plans to start shipping in fall 2016.
