Gillette Innovating the Shaving Industry with Treo
Shaving isn’t anything new to us. Most of us have been shaving in some capacity for decades. A part of our routines that we don’t even think twice about. The razor and shaving industry is worth billions of dollars, and given the need for razors and shaving cream isn’t going away anytime soon, we know this market will continue to grow. Product innovator Gillette has been ruling the marketplace for years, making razors since 1900, and accounting for nearly 60% of the market share in the sector.
Product Innovator Gillette Fix Everyday Challenge
Recently the product innovator has approached a sector of the market that has been untouched for far too long. For most of us, shaving is easy, a regular everyday thing we have to do in our routine, but for people that rely on other people to shave them, this can be a challenging task. Caretakers for elderly or people with disabilities find shaving someone else nerve-wracking, awkward and difficult. That’s why Gillette stepped in to try and alleviate the problem with Treo.
Grandfather’s of Shaving Bear Product Innovation Treo
Treo is the first ever assisted shaving razor designed to alleviate those challenges other people face when trying to shave their loved ones. Its razor has special blades that prevent clogging, an innovative handle that operates like a paintbrush with a unique divot, and built-in shave gel in the handle which hydrates the hair and lubricates the skin for a comfortable and mess-free shave. Truly pioneering in product innovation.
Matt Hodgson, a principal design engineer at Gillette’s product development facility noticed that people were pointing out the problems they were having about those that were no longer able to shave themselves and to better understand the issue, he put himself in their shoes. As research, he tried shaving a colleague in the office, after trying he realized just how challenging it was. Why wasn’t there a solution for this? Hodgson is a product innovator, he wanted to aid his consumers and life-long customers into their elderly years.
Recently the company was a finalist in the 2018 Innovation by Design Awards by Fast Company as a product innovator and their unique approach on product designing, addressing a need in the marketplace and solving an issue that so many people face today.
