My name is Jelena and I have joined Mako Invent as a social media and communications coordinator. I was recently accepted to their internship Training Accelerator Program ( iTAP).
As a recent graduate from York University with a background in psychology, I always thought my path was to be a psychologist. Unfortunately, my first few years at university weren’t exactly smooth sailing. I felt I was putting in a lot of effort into something I wasn’t passionate about. I was lost, and didn’t feel the motivation that most of my friends did. After two and half years of school I realized that psychology wasn’t my calling. Isn’t that story with most post-secondary students?
I didn’t want to be stuck and so, I did something about it.
I am forever thankful that I listened to my intuition, and stepped out of my comfort zone. I enrolled into a marketing program and it was from that point on, that I felt the drive to succeed. It is also here where my student mentality kicked in and the eagerness to learn shined through. During school I had the opportunity to learn about growing a business and what it takes to bring a product idea from concept to reality.
My Experience with Mako Design + Invent
Fast forward to today I am now amerced in the startup culture and loving every moment of it! I am so grateful to be part of this team at Mako Invent and eager to learn as much as I can during my time here. iTAP has provided me with hands on experience in social media strategy and targeted outreach. Currently my focus is to expand Mako Invent’s reach to innovators across North America.
It has become evident that social media is no longer a luxury for businesses but a necessity. Social media allows for communication with a targeted audience and enables businesses to engage with the customers on a personal level. As a result, the possibilities that social media can provide for innovations are endless.
So far Mako Invent has been one of the most rewarding experience for my professional career and I encourage anyone who believes they have what it takes to take a chance an apply to iTAP. I can promise you it won’t be easy but in the end you will know it was well worth it. My name is Jelena Urosevic and I am iTAP.
