Austin Innovation Changes | MAKO Design + Invent

Exciting Changes for UT Austin

As you may know, last year MAKO opened a new office in Austin, Texas—one of the largest innovation hubs in the US. Austin, also known as the Silicon Hills, is home to some of the most innovative institutions and organizations. Among one of them is the University of Texas at Austin. There is no doubt that the University of Texas at Austin is one of the top universities stateside. With its incredible campus, excellent student culture, and amazing academic programs, students from around the world look to attend University of Texas at Austin in order to get an unparalleled academic experience. In fact, Forbes calls the University of Texas’ Cockrell School of Engineering a secret weapon for Austin’s innovation race with Silicon Valley. Behind every successful organization or institution is a strong leader. For universities, this leadership is represented by the president of the school. The president plays a crucial role in providing growth and opportunities for university students. They must also make sure everything from safety to the reputation and academic standards are always held at the highest level. Choosing the right president is a tough decision and is not something that should be taken lightly.

It was recently announced that William Powers would no longer be serving as President of University of Texas at Austin. He has had an amazing run and has done incredible things for the school in his ten years as President. The new President was voted to be Gregory L. Fenves. Gregory is no stranger to University of Texas at Austin, being the former Vice President of the school.  Having an amazing background in engineering, he was also appointed the 8th Dean of The Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin. During his time as Dean he increased the amount of entrepreneurial and technology communication programs at the university, and started the development of Engineering Education Research Centre. This Centre is set to open in 2017 and will be dedicated to research and helping students to gain a more hands on approach to projects.

MAKO Welcomes Gregory

MAKO loves being a part of a city that is considered to be one of the largest hubs for innovation. With Greogry L. Fenves taking his presidential seat at UT Austin, we can’t wait to see what he has in store for Austin’s innovative culture. His experience and accomplishments, which include the development of the first wireless sensor networks for infrastructures, show his true passion for innovation and fostering success. He states that he is dedicated to “innovating excellence”, something that MAKO commends and familiarizes with. We wish nothing but the best for Gregory and UTAustin. Having such an inspiring leader in our academic community that shares our passion for innovation is fantastic. The students are in great hands!
