“It’s an honor to be considered a top entrepreneurial company,” says Kevin Mako, Founder of MAKO Invent. “This further validates everything we do through our industrial design services to advance our entrepreneur clients today and educate the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

The Award:

The Entrepreneur 360 celebrates outstanding performers in the small business landscape who exemplify superior growth. This growth is not only in revenue, but in the ability to create tremendous value for clients, provide adaptive learning cultures for employees, and drive innovation in their industries. By placing in the top 100, MAKO Invent is proudly featured in the November issue of Entrepreneur Magazine!

Started from the Bottom…

With our roots in Toronto, we thought a Drake quote was necessary. The now 25-person team that develops over 100 new products every year with leading industrial design services was built completely grass-roots with no investors, debt, or financing. Ever since day one, the company’s core values have remained the same: to drive successful product innovation, provide exceptional industrial design services and develop entrepreneurship.

Now We’re Here!

Part of being a successful entrepreneur is mentoring others along the way, which is why MAKO Invent focuses on the development of entrepreneurship. To support youth entrepreneurs interested in using industrial design services for their inventions, the MAKO Student Innovation Award will generously grant over $100,000 to promising teenage inventors over the next 10 years to fund their budding ventures. The Industrial Design Guild, a MAKO created think tank, connects and advances entrepreneurs and professionals offering industrial design services in Toronto, ON and Austin, TX.

From One Entrepreneur to Another:

In the spirit of developing entrepreneurship, making an impact and driving innovation, our Founder is imparting is us all with his words of entrepreneurial wisdom:

Set Your BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal

30 years from now, who do you want to be? Where do you want to be? Every decision you make moving forward ask yourself: Does this get you closer or further to your big hairy audacious goal?

How does this work? If I have an idea that is not out there and I’m not sure what exactly the logistical problems (if any) would be with it , is there some sort of consultation we could do without committing to you fully? And would my idea be protected? Also how much would a consultation be ?

Ready for MAKO to turn YOUR product idea into a MARKET SUCCESS?

Entrepreneur Magazine Names MAKO as a Top Company of 2016

It all begins with an idea. You’ve had that light bulb moment. So you race to jot down this brilliant, life changing idea before it vanishes from your memory all together. Now what? An idea is just an idea until you take action. You’ll want to consult an industrial design firm to help you throughout your invention journey.

Your industrial design firm can take you through the inventing process.

Step 1: Own It

This is the first step to keeping your idea your own. Write it down – and anything to do with it – in an inventors journal. This is your bible throughout the inventing process. This journal is proof you came up with your idea and is also helpful later for creative briefs with your industrial design firm. The sooner you document it, the more likely the idea is to remain yours. And before you speak to anyone about it, including your industrial design firm, make sure they sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement – standard procedure at MAKO.

Step 2: Do Your Homework and Hire an Industrial Design Firm

Research. Research. Research. Does anyone else have a similar idea? How will you make yours different? Who is your target market? Would they buy your product? Your industrial design firm can usually recommend a patent attorney to help you research your and patent your idea legally. They can also help review the competitive landscape providing in depth analysis on similar products in the field.

Step 3: Our Favorite Part!

Make a prototype! This is either a functional or aesthetic physical model of your idea that brings to life everything in that journal. It demonstrates the design thinking of the industrial design firm and gives you the chance to display it for investors, licensees, and test subjects. First, we begin with a concept sketch, then move to a 3D computer automated design, then move to the prototype and patenting phase.

Step 4: Generate Hype

It’s time to bring your product to market. As an industrial design firm, we make it our goal to help you every step of the way. When you’re ready to enter into the market, we have several retail partners, comprehensive competitive analysis capabilities and more to get you onto those store shelves and into consumer’s hands!
