Kevin Mako Talks Top Invention Development
Kevin reveals how he got started as an entrepreneur in the early ’90s. He is humbled to have already had such great success being just 34 years old with top invention development. He reflects on the choices he had to make to get where he is today, some of those being turning down great job offers right out of University. “I had the pick of the litter of good jobs that would help pay down some of that student debt.”, says Mako. Ultimately making the tough decision to move forward with his entrepreneurial spirit.
MAKO’s Business Model Explained
Determined to get his company off the ground, and dedicated to creating this business model that everybody in the industry told him he was nuts to do, Mako pushed forward with top invention development. The concept was simple; take a sophisticated, high-end design and apply it to startups in the product development space. Friends who worked at larger business and marketing firms told him he was crazy. They said that if he wanted to work with startups and inventors, they wouldn’t have any money.
“I think it’s the way that these big design houses are working with startups that is incorrectly matched.”
He expresses how he spent all of his 20’s trying to figure out the ideologies, staffing, and connections with manufacturing and prototyping to create the full ecosystem for MAKO Design + Invent’s top invention development. Carmine asks Kevin Mako, “What is one of your favourite products that has come out of MAKO?”
“This client came to us a few years ago, and they said ‘Ok, I wanna have this little robot looking thing that has a camera on it with a speaker, that allows you from an app to talk to your dog while you’re at work’, and these guys became wildly successful, sold a ton of product and ended up getting acquired by a company called PetCube. They found this niche, they had a global market to go after and they nailed it. I’m really proud of those guys.”
