Inc. Magazine just revealed that MAKO Design + Invent, the pioneer product design company in Austin, is No. 115 on its second annual Inc. 5000 Regionals: Texas list, the most prestigious ranking of the fastest-growing Texas-based private companies.

Born of the annual Inc. 5000 franchise, this regional list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the Texas economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses.

“MAKO Design’s rapid growth is a testament to our ability to provide world-class product development services to startups, small businesses, and inventors. Thanks to our experienced team of high-end designers and engineers, we’ve proven that even first-time inventors who start with a humble idea sketched on a napkin can compete with the best of the best in our industry with the right tools, support, and knowledge,” says Kevin Mako, President and Founder of MAKO Design + Invent.

The companies on this list show stunning growth rates across all industries in Texas. Between 2017 and 2019, these 250 private companies had an average growth rate of 210 percent.

In 2019 alone, they employed more than 44,000 people and added more than $9 billion to the Texas economy. In fact, companies based in the largest metro areas—Dallas, Houston, and Austin—brought in the highest revenue overall.

Methodology
The 2021 Inc. 5000 Regionals are ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2017 and 2019. To qualify, however, companies including our product design company in Austin must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2017.

More specifically, they had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2019. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.)

The minimum revenue required for 2017 is $100,000. Additionally, the minimum for 2019 is $1 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons.
