Top Tips for Small Business from Mako Designs CEO, Kevin Mako
As a small business owner or home inventor, you’re going to need as much insights and resources as possible to help encourage the debut of your new business! With all big and new ventures, support, motivation, and inspiration are huge factors that can help positively influence the beginning of your small business journey. To help our future small business owners and home inventors out, we’ve listed some of the best small business tips from our CEO and Founder, Kevin Mako, as well as some of the history of how Mako Design started.
Mako Design’s History as a Small Business
A lot of people might know what Mako Design does as product development firm, but many may not be aware of our history as a small business. Like all successful companies, Mako Design was founded by our president and CEO, Kevin Mako in 1999. Determined to get Mako Design up and running, Kevin dedicated his whole career to make Mako Design a successful and thriving business. Although he was told that the idea behind Mako Design was crazy and that he would fail, Kevin was persistent with his goals and pushed on. He had a clear vision in mind: have world-class and high-quality designs available to start-ups and home inventors within the consumer product field.
Kevin believed that there was a huge market for start-ups and home inventors, but that the way that bigger design corporations dealt with these groups of people were not working out best in their favor. Thus, Kevin built Mako Design from the ground up with no loans, following a strict structure for the company vision that he so clearly saw. The result is now a completely functional, high quality and professional product development firm that caters well-made designs and products exclusively to small businesses and home inventors.

Kevins Top Small Business Tips:
As Kevin has spent his whole career building Mako Design and working on consumer product development, he’s accumulated a lot of knowledge and experience about the product development industry, entrepreneurship and businesses. Thus, here are some of his best small business tips on how to succeed within the consumer product development industry.
His first small business tip, especially for those who plan on debuting within product development is to keep things simple. Kevin further emphasizes this concept through following a popular philosophy at Mako Design which is the MVP, or Minimal Viable Product. Keeping thing simple will not only give you a clear goal and vision to follow but will make the production and planning for your future product easier to manufacture and create.

The next small business tip that Kevin shares is to hustle. Staying motived and persistent is not only what is going to help keep pushing your business onwards, but will also make sure that no matter which goals you set out for yourself, you achieve, because you’ve set your mind on hustling and getting things done.
Finally, Kevin’s last small business tip is to not procrastinate. Keep any momentum you have going and make sure to immediately problem solve any trouble that comes your way as soon as possible, or else too much can pile up at once making it hard for your small business to more forward and achieve.
